ISSUE, BACKGROUND, ANALYSIS, & RECOMMENDATION |
ISSUE: |
Should the Commission authorize the Executive Director to enter into a contract with a qualified entity for the presentation of the Supervisory Course Facilitators' Training (SCFT) workshop and for the Situational Leadership II (SL II) workshop in an amount not to exceed $33,130? |
BACKGROUND: |
POST Regulation 1070 requires all instructors of the POST Supervisory Course to complete the Supervisory Course Facilitators' and Situational Leadership Workshops prior to facilitating the course.
Historically, POST has contracted with a qualified entity to present this training. The current contract will expire June 30, 2015. |
ANALYSIS: |
The 80-hour POST Supervisory Course is presented with an extensive use of experience-based learning techniques, video scenarios, case studies, and participative student exercises. The Supervisory Course Facilitators' Training (SCFT) workshop provides in-depth familiarity with the course content and techniques to facilitate discussions and exercises to maximize the effectiveness of the student learning.
When the course was updated and redesigned a block of study on Situational Leadership methodology was added. At that time the Commission approved adding a requirement for facilitators to also complete an additional 16-hour Situational Leadership (SL II) workshop. The SL II training workshop enables facilitators to gain the level of competence and confidence essential for imparting the SL II concepts.
One SCFT and one SLII workshop is planned for FY 2015-16. The contract also includes the purchase of the SL II instructor kits.
A breakdown of the cost of the presentation is contained in Attachment A. |
RECOMMENDATION: |
Staff recommends the Commission authorize the Executive Director to enter into a contract with a qualified entity for the presentation of the Supervisory Course Facilitators' Training (SCFT) workshop and for the Situational Leadership II (SL II) workshop in an amount not to exceed $33,130. |
