ISSUE:

This report is presented for information only.  No action is required.

BACKGROUND:

Commission Regulation 1070 sets minimum training standards for instructors of POST-Certified Specialized Training.  Currently, there are no requirements for specialized subject instructors to attend an advanced or update course to enhance and maintain their level of proficiency in the subject they are instructing.

ANALYSIS:

POST is considering an update to Commission Regulation 1070 - Minimum Training Standards for Instructors of POST-Certified Specialized Training.  This proposed change would add a requirement for specialized subject instructors to periodically attend an advanced or update training course to maintain proficiency in the subjects they teach.

It is important that instructors of these specialized subjects receive advanced or update training in order to maintain proficiency with tactics, techniques, and academic skills. The advanced or update instructor course would include content consisting of current regulations, changes in legislative and case law, and perishable skills updates.

RECOMMENDATION:

This item is for information only.  No action is required by the Commission.
