ISSUE:

AB392 mandates changes to all California law enforcement officers during deadly force encounters.  The changes to the law will take effect in January 2020.

BACKGROUND:

With the changes to police use of force, as outlined in AB392 and SB230, it is imperative that officers be updated on these changes.  The video created by Learning Technology Resources uses subject matter experts to explain the new laws and the effect those laws have on California law enforcement officers.

ANALYSIS:

The Executive Office and the Learning Technology Resources Bureau met to discuss and plan the most expeditious method to disseminate statewide information on the changes to the laws surrounding police use of force.  It was felt that a video explaining the new laws and their effect would accomplish this goal in a timely manner.

RECOMMENDATION:

This report and demonstration is submitted for information and discussion.
