ISSUE:
The proposed amendments to Regulation 1052 stipulate that presenters must notify POST in writing of injuries requiring more than basic first aid within five business days. In anticipation of the adoption of the proposed amendment to Regulation 1052, a policy and procedure to aid presenters in making timely notifications of injuries has been developed to ensure uniformity of the reporting process.
BACKGROUND:
The proposed amendments to Regulation 1052 stipulate that presenters must notify POST in writing of injuries requiring more than basic first aid within five business days. In anticipation of the adoption of the proposed amendment to Regulation 1052, a policy and procedure to aid presenters in making timely notifications of injuries has been developed to ensure uniformity of the reporting process. This will prevent inconsistencies in how notifications shall be made, who receives the notifications, and who is responsible for keeping track of the notifications. Additionally, a uniform policy and procedure and a designated responsible party/Bureau, allows POST to track training related injuries and be proactive in identifying injury trends stemming from training.
ANALYSIS:
POST has developed a standard policy and procedure for all presenters to use in reporting training-related injuries requiring more than basic first aid. Additionally, POST has developed an online reporting form to help streamline the process and facilitate proper and timely notification to appropriate POST staff. Training Delivery and Compliance Bureau will be responsible for reviewing the injury reports to identify potential trends in training-related injuries, and subsequently advising any other impacted Bureau.
RECOMMENDATION:
If the Commission concurs, the appropriate action would be MOTION to approve the policy and procedures for injury reporting and the online Regulation 1052 Injury Report Form.
