Should the Commission authorize the Executive Director to enter into a contract with a qualifying entity for the presentation of the POST Sherman Block Leadership Institute (SLI) in an amount not to exceed $2,570,033.00?

POST’s vision is served through the development and maintenance of training curricula for California Peace Officers. POST utilizes annual contracts to provide mandated and necessary training in the areas of leadership, criminal investigations, future foresight, supervision, management, instructor development, diversity, and tolerance.

POST has presented the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) since 1988.  SLI is an intensive 8-month program for first line supervisors based on experiential learning techniques.

The SLI program places an emphasis on "adaptive leadership" while taking the students through an analysis of management and leadership, and how each discipline complements the other.  The course progresses from self-evaluation, to interpersonal evaluation, to organizational relationships. Students are challenged to learn new ways to resolve issues through both group and individual work.

SLI is highly regarded as a premier law enforcement leadership course.

The current contract will expire the end of FY 19/20.
