As part of an ongoing process, staff reviews regulations and procedures relating to course certification to determine if revisions are necessary. This report covers a revision to POST Regulation 1053 (Attachment A).  The revision provides the minimum hourly standards for self-paced learning courses.

The current regulation does not indicate the minimum number of hours that may be approved for self-paced learning courses. This recommended regulatory change clarifies the minimum standards for self-paced learning courses.

The proposed change to the Commission Regulation 1053 clarifies the minimum standards for self-paced learning courses.

Staff recommends that the revision to Commission Regulation 1053 be amended pursuant to the rulemaking process and the Office of Administrative Law. If no one requests a public hearing, the amendment would become effective January 1, 2021.
