POST has presented the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) since 1988.  SLI is an intense 8-month program for first line supervisors based on experiential learning techniques.  Students are challenged to learn new ways to resolve issues through both group and individual work.

The program is a well respected and highly sought after leadership training program that continues to have widespread support from law enforcement leaders and Departments throughout the state.

Historically POST has contracted with a qualified entity to present the program.

The program places an emphasis on "adaptive leadership" while taking the students through an analysis of management and leadership and how each discipline complements the other.  The course progresses from self-evaluation, to interpersonal evaluation, to organizational relationships.

POST will present 15 classes during the fiscal year with each class admitting 24 students.  All presentations will be filled, and there is a waiting list to attend the course. 

The amount of funding requested is the same amount as the previous fiscal year.  A cost breakdown for the program is described in Attachment A.

POST must contract with a qualified vendor in order to present the course.
