Commission Regulations 1951 through 1960 are being revised to clarify the medical/psychological evaluation reporting requirements and the CPE requirements for screening psychologists, align the public safety dispatcher and peace officer selection requirements, and update references to POST documents within the regulations. An underline/strikeout version of the regulations is provided as Attachment A. Specific revision areas are as follows:
Commission Regulation 1951: Reading and Writing Ability Assessment is being updated to further clarify that the Reading and Writing requirement can be met by any of the three outlined options and to update the revision date of the required Test Use and Security Agreement form.
Commission Regulation 1954(e) and 1955(f): Peace Officer Medical and Psychological Evaluations and Commission Regulation 1960(e) are being revised to clarify the documentation required in the background file. The required documentation is currently called a Medical/Psychological Evaluation Report, lending itself to misinterpretation of being a “medical” document rather than a “clearance” letter. Language is therefore being revised to refer to the document as a medical/psychological suitability declaration rather than an evaluation report. POST guidance and forms will also be updated to reflect these changes.
The Peace Officer Evaluator CPE Requirement [Commission Regulation 1955(a)(3)] revision provides concise, yet thorough detailing of the CPE requirements for screening psychologists. It also removes unnecessary date references.
In continuation of the aligning of peace officer and public safety dispatcher standards, Commission Regulation 1956(c)(1)(B) Public Safety Dispatcher Selection Requirements has been updated to include the 180 day exemption from POST requirements for dispatchers returning to the same POST-participating department within 180 days of voluntary separation.
Other non-substantive revisions include clarifying language and updates to guidance documents and POST forms. |
