ISSUE:

At the May 30, 2019 Commission meeting, the Commission approved the revisions to the Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses. At this meeting, the Commission also approved the revision to Commission Regulation 1052, Requirements for Course Certification, updating references to the POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses. 

In June of 2020, the Office of Administrative Law gave final approval for the changes and publication of the revised guidelines: Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses 2020 and filed the guidelines with the Secretary of State. The revised version becomes effective October 1, 2020. 

In September of 2020, POST staff created and sent a bulletin to the field notifying all stakeholders of the changes to Commission Regulation 1052, the publication and effective date of the new guidelines. 

BACKGROUND:

The POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses were originally published in 1992 and last revised in 2007. POST staff recently completed a comprehensive update and revision of these guidelines, producing the POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses 2020. 

The Guidelines have been published on the POST Website and the field has been notified of their availability and effective date. 

ANALYSIS:

At the May 30, 2019 POST Commission meeting, the Commission approved the revisions to the POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses as well as the changes to Commission Regulation 1052. The Office of Administrative Law approved the revised documents in June of 2020 and filed them with the Secretary of State that same month. 

In September of 2020, POST staff created and sent a bulletin to the field notifying all stakeholders of the changes to Commission Regulation 1052, the publication and effective date of the new guidelines. 

RECOMMENDATION:

POST Staff are pleased to notify the Commission that the POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses 2020 have been approved by the Office of Administrative Law, filed with the Secretary of State, published on the POST Website and that the field has been notified of their availability and effective date.
