On May 7, 2020, Governor Newsom signed Executive Order N-63-20. The Executive Order, among other things, provides certain authorities for law enforcement training during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Executive Order grants the POST Executive Director authority to issue temporary waivers from Regulations 1005 (Minimum Standards for Training), 1008 (Basic Course Waiver and Requalification Requirement), and 1070 (Minimum Training Standards for Instructors of POST-Certified Specialized Training). The Executive Order directs the POST Executive Director to inform the Commission whenever such waivers are issued.

As of February 9, 2021, POST received 25 waiver requests in relation to the Executive Order and Regulations 1005, 1008, and 1070. Of the 25 requests, 23 requests were approved, one was denied, and one is pending. One of the approved requests was subsequently rescinded by the requesting agency. |
